“The new Kindle Oasis is capable of surviving in two metres of water for up to 60 mins”
Last April, Amazon launched the Kindle Oasis as a premium offering in its series of e-book readers. The device was the slimmest and lightest e-reader by the brand at the time. Today, the company has launched the new variant of the Kindle Oasis. The new model flaunts a water-resistant design and comes with a bigger display. Amazon says the new e-reader is IPX8 certified, which means it is capable of surviving in two metres of water for up to 60 minutes. It’s worth mentioning that this is the first Kindle to offer water resistance.
This year’s Amazon Kindle Oasis features a more premium aluminium finish. The device measures 3.4mm around the waist at its thinnest point and tips the scales at 131 grams. The e-reader comes with a 7-inch e-ink display, a full inch bigger than its predecessor. The display still has a pixel density of 300 pixels per inch, which the brand says offers text just as sharp as before. The e-reader is available in 8GB and 32GB storage variants.
The Kindle Oasis comes with Bluetooth connectivity to let you connect wireless headphones or speakers. The device integrates Amazon’s Audible audiobook service, which is a first for a Kindle. This feature allows readers to seamlessly switch between audiobooks and e-books. So if you have both formats of a book, then you can easily switch between them. The new Oasis offers a battery life of up to six weeks on a single charge on regular usage. Apart from Bluetooth, it offers Wi-Fi connectivity as well.
The Amazon Kindle Oasis with 8GB storage and Wi-Fi has been priced at Rs 21,999, while the 32GB variant that comes with Wi-Fi + 3G connectivity is being offered for Rs 28,999. The devices are available to pre-order on Amazon India, and will go on sale on November 15th.
