Things continue to go poorly for Florida, and not just because of the midseason departure of coach Jim McElwain.
Even a clutch defensive play by freshman cornerback CJ Henderson turned into a nightmare for the Gators on Saturday. Henderson, who has two interception returns for touchdowns this season, looked well on his way to a third before things went awry.
With South Carolina leading 7-0 in the first quarter, Henderson intercepted a pass from Jake Bentley at the Gamecocks’ 25 and ran the ball toward the end zone. But as he got inside the 5, South Carolina tight end Hayden Hurst knocked the ball out of Henderson’s hands.
The ball rolled into the end zone, where South Carolina running back A.J. Turner was waiting. Turner then ran the ball back outside the 20, giving the Gamecocks better field position than they started with before the turnovers.
