Tesco threatened with boycott over Christmas ad

Some took to Twitter calling for a boycott of the UK’s largest supermarket after its “Everyone’s Welcome” advert was released.

Another wrote: “I can imagine there’s gonna be a few complaints from veggies/vegans about the @Tesco “Everybody’s Welcome” Christmas advert!”

In what the Evening Standard calls a “racist backlash”, many Tesco customers have called for a boycott of the chain, largely due to the ad’s inclusion of Muslim families. They do not celebrate CHRISTIAN festival!

“We want our customers to know that however they choose to do Christmas, and no matter what they need, we can help – Everyone’s Welcome at Tesco”.

It’s turkey lurkey time for Tesco.

“Well I say well done”.

Tesco features a Sikh, two gay dads, and even a group of Muslim hijabis in its Christmas ad.

According to Premier, the advertisement, which shows different families celebrating Christmas over a traditional Turkey dinner, was part of the supermarket chain’s “Everyone’s Welcome” campaign.

At the launch of Tesco’s festive campaign, the supermarket’s chief customer officer Alessandra Bellini said the ad was meant to “celebrate the many ways we come together at Christmas, and how food sits at the heart of it all”.

The store was also forced to comment on its policies surrounding the sale of halal meat.

Another wrote: “Your Christmas advert features Muslims, but they do not celebrate Christian celebrations, so why?”

The retailer has since clarified on social media that all halal meat will be properly labeled and no customer will be sold halal meat without their knowledge.
