New York Jets running back Matt Forte has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Bucs with a knee injury.
The 31-year-old Forte didn’t practice all week after having a season-high 77 yards rushing against Buffalo last Thursday night.
Fantasy Impact Forte had his best game of the season last week against the Bills, but complained of swelling in his knee this week and couldn’t practice.
The Jets have a bye after Sunday, so he’ll be able to get extra rest before NY plays again on November 26 against Carolina.
With Forte out, Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire will handle backfield duties for the Jets.
Forte had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in January, to fix a torn meniscus.
“I think it’s a timing thing”, Forte said. “It just got worse on me”.
“No”, Forte said. “I told you it was already swollen before that”. “Throughout this week, we were trying to get it to go down more and more, but it didn’t happen”. “You deal with injuries throughout the year, and at running back, it’s always obviously tough”. With Stewart banged up, the Jets have just three healthy wide receivers with Jermaine Kearse, Robby Anderson and rookie Chad Hansen.
In other injury news, defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson (toe/shoulder), cornerback Morris Claiborne (foot) and guard Brian Winters (abdomen) are listed as questionable.
Because it is just swelling, Forte said he believes rest will fix the knee. He hadn’t practiced before Thursday since injuring a foot against Atlanta.
Jermaine Kearse said it stood to reason that Thursday games beget more injuries. Jalin Marshall and JoJo Natson are the two likely options.
