PDP hopeful of ‘breakthrough’ as interlocutor Sharma concludes Kashmir visit

The interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma on the second leg of his maiden five-day visit to State held deliberations with the stakeholders in Jammu, the winter capital of the State, where Governor N N Vohra impressed on him to sustain the dialogue and hear the elements of the society, who apparently held contrary convictions.

They said that on Friday, he will meet around 30 delegations comprising political, non-political and social at Convention Hall.

Gandhi said he it was “unfortunate that they were not given the right of citizenship, employment and the right to vote”. I am going to visit Jammu and Kashmir again and again, ” he said on Friday when asked about Hurriyat leaders not meeting him.

Pointing out that the Centre has given him the task to restore peace in Kashmir and find out some solution, Sharma said that this is what he and everybody wants.

“I will also try to meet Hurriyat”, Sharma said.

He alleged a migration of nationalists was taking place from the Jammu region to other parts of the country due to their non-inclusion in the political dialogue process and the appeasement policy which was being followed by the government towards the separatists. “All stakeholders, including Pakistan, should be brought on board and engaged with”, he said.

BJP spokesman Arun Gupta told New Indian Express that they told Sharma that there should be equitable development in all three regions of the state – Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.

The leaders of displaced Kashmiri Pandits have demanded that government should take immediate steps to “liberate” Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) and also pave way for carving out a separate homeland within the Valley for minority Brahmin Hindu community. Sharma is scheduled to return to the national capital tomorrow.

A CCIJ delegation, led by its president Rakesh Gupta, called on Sharma here and raised issues of unemployment and development. The entire approach has been disrespectful to the leaders invited for talks and betrayed a lack of basic interest in talking to leaders of Panun Kashmir.

It claimed that 10 minutes were being allotted to six representatives of different organisations and flag issues and so it chose to abstain from meeting Sharma.
