KWAZULU-NATAL – Police are investigating a fire that’s destroyed more than a 100 shacks in Durban, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
It’s still unclear what sparked the blaze at the Foreman Road informal settlement.
Over a thousand people have been left homeless.
Shack dwellers organisation, Abahlali baseMjondolo is appealing to the public for assistance.
“We are appealing for help. That community doesn’t even have a hall where victims can be housed temporarily. We are making calls also to individuals to reach out to those affected by the fire,” said Sbu Zikode from Abahlali baseMjondolo.
