The Spice Girls are to reunite next year for a new compilation album and TV special, reports claim. According to The Sun, all five members of the legendary pop band have been in talks about a reunion since the summer.

“Finally they are all on-board for a 2018 reunion,” said an unnamed source. “As it stands, they will be working together on a series of projects, which will include an album and a TV special celebrating The Spice Girls.

“And getting Victoria to agree has been a coup for everyone involved, given she has always been the person holding back on a reunion.

“The fact she is on board now is down to how much closer the five of them have become recently.”

The girls – Mel Brown, Mel Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Victoria Beckham – have had a tumultuous relationship since the band originally split up in 2000. They reunited in 2007 for a worldwide tour ending in 2008.

They next appeared together to perform at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, where they performed a medley of hit singles Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life.

“Things between them were quite icy at the start of the year,” said The Sun’s source. “But gradually the ice thawed, and Mel [B] was the one who drove that. Mel’s divorce battle also helped to bring them back together, as did the birth of Geri’s son.

“Plans at the moment are still in the early stages, and everything involving the girls tends to be complicated because they are so busy. It is not easy to get them all in the same place at the same time. But the team behind the reunion are delighted to have made it to this point.”

Brown, Bunton, and Horner had planned to reunite as a three-piece in 2016 with the blessing of the two remaining members, but the project was cancelled when Horner announced her pregnancy.
